New Adventures in the Tee Shirt Business

Hi, Lou Robin here.

I was asked to join the people here at the T-shirt Printing Blog to give advice and help in some small way. Those who know me on the T-shirt Forum (badalou) or have seen my videos on You Tube know that I am not in the screen printing part of the business. But I am still in the T-shirt and apparel end of the business and I am here to let you know there is another side of the business. It is heat-applied graphics.

It is easier for most of you wanting to get into the tee design and printing business because it requires a lot less money and knowledge. You can start with a printer, some paper, a heat press and the will to learn. The term heat applied graphics covers a wide area. It means:

  • Inkjet printing
  • Sublimation printing
  • Plastisol transfers   and
  • Vinyl transfers

Two of these inkjet and sublimation you can do in house. Sublimation is more expensive. Plastisol transfers are transfers made for you by companies using screen-printing methods. It does offer you the opportunity to compete with screen printers though. Vinyl transfers requires you to have a cutter. I have the Roland GX24. Love it.

If you would like to explore the business you are welcome to send me an email for info or visit my educational web site. I also operate a distribution company called www.heatpressessentials.com that offers products used in the industry.

Well as this is my first post here I hope I at least wetted your appetite for the business. It can be a new adventure for you. Lou
