Tips to Lower your T-shirt Printing Bill
December 20th, 2008 Posted in Public PostsTired of paying too much for your t-shirt printing? If you’d like some simple tips on how to get your screen printing services for a little cheaper, without losing quality, check out our latest post.
You may have read our post earlier this week about ‘How to Avoid Extra Screen Printing Charges’ that post was great for helping you keep an eye out for unnecessary misc. charges. What do you do though when you already have a printer who gives you an unitemized price. What could you do to help lower that price? Well that is what today’s post is all about. We will give you some quick tips on how to lower your screen printing bill.
Tip #1: Print Fewer colors
Generally, for spot color printing-the most widely used, the more colors in the design, the more expensive this will be to print. The biggest reason for this is screen setup charges. Every new color requires a different film and screen to be burnt in order to make your shirt. You can view info on how screens are used to print your shirt by visiting our “Printing Procedures” section of our “Screen Printing Info” page on our main site. Other reasons that extra colors could add to your price are the fact that extra inks are being used, as well as a more difficult job the artist has on getting your shirt ready for printing. So to keep your project as cheap as possible, print as few colors possible. Of course you may have more room in your budget to expand your color usage which will make the design look better and pop more on the shirt.
Tip#2: Get Creative with Your Art
If you want to keep the number of ink colors low, in order to get cheaper shirts, but still want to give it the look of a two or three color design, you can still do that with creative artwork. Using bubble letters, or blanks in your design will let you utilize the color of the shirt as a color for the design. This works really well when you have other bold printing where people may not even realize that the red middle section is actually the background of the shirt. Your t-shirt printer should have no problem designing for this, just make sure to ask that they use the shirt color as a color in the design and not simply a background. You will also need to let them know that you do not want any ink to be used for the color. Some printers will actually print the same color of your shirt in ink to add more to their bottom line. Don’t fall for this as it will not only add more to your bill but in some cases may even look bad on the shirts.
